SACRAMENTO, Calif.—UC Davis Medical Center has agreed to pay a $5.75 million settlement to a 4-year-old boy who suffered brain injuries during his birth at the hospital.
A Sacramento County judge approved the deal Friday over the delivery of Cannon Hoops on Dec. 1, 2004.
Bruce Fagel, who represents Cannon’s parents, filed a medical malpractice lawsuit saying UC Davis staff caused injuries that caused the boy’s cerebral palsy. According to Fagel’s court declaration, attorneys for the University of California Board of Regents have said it’s the largest settlement the university system has paid to settle a medical malpractice claim.
Leo Schuering Jr., an attorney for the board, declined to comment Friday.
